Memorable Father's Day Activity Ideas

Posted by Teghan Acres on

June brings along with it many reasons to celebrate - schools are out for the break, summer is officially here and it’s Father’s Day! It is the perfect time to enjoy family time and get outdoors together. While the pandemic has kept us close to home this year, there are still endless local activities to celebrate the Dads and father figures in our children’s lives. Scroll through these ideas for some inspiration to plan a memorable Father’s Day weekend.

  • Nature Walk

Get out to your local trails and have fun learning with your kids by identifying as many plants, animals and birds as you can! Apps like iNaturalist allow you to discover names and fun facts about the flora and fauna around you.

  • Bike Ride

No matter if you’re kids are on two wheels, three wheels or riding along the back of your bike, a ride is a great way to get some fresh air and explore your neighbourhood.

  • Canoe / Kayak

Check out if your local lake or marine park has canoe or kayak rentals to get out on the water. Leave your technology on the shore to unplug and enjoy the moment.

  • Fishing

Break out the fishing rods and see what’s biting! Even if you don’t catch any chum, an afternoon on the lake is never a waste of time.

  • Family Sports Game

Depending on the size of your family (and social bubble), you can get your crew together for a miniature game of soccer, baseball or basketball at your local park.

  • Backyard Movie Night

Borrow or rent a projector to snuggle up in the backyard under some blankets and kick back with some popcorn for an outdoor movie night.

  • Homemade S’mores

Spark up the fire pit or make do with the microwave to enjoy a night of homemade s’mores. This will get the kids excited for any summer camping plans!

  • Cook Dinner Together

My Dad’s favourite way to spend quality time together is in the kitchen. Whether you are like mine or a newbie in the kitchen, it can be fun to play with ingredients and try something new! Homemade pizza is our easy and classic go-to.

  • Mini Golf

While you might not be able to take the little ones out for an 18 hole course, you can still share a favourite activity with your kids at the mini-golf course.

  • Ice Cream Shop

With the warmer weather, take a trip down to your favourite ice cream shop and support a local business while having a sweet treat.

  • Board Game Tournament

Have each family member pick out a favourite board game and work your way through them all. This is great if your family is competitive like mine!

Father’s Day is, of course, a day for having fun but more importantly, it’s for celebrating the special Dads, Grandpas, and other father figures that have raised us and are our partners in raising our families. Tradle wants to give a heartfelt Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads in our community and we hope you enjoy celebrating with your family. Share any ideas we missed in the comments below!
